The intervention of facelift is quite long, it can last from 3 to 5 hours and it can also be performed under local anesthesia with sedation. Which steps should the patient take in the postoperative course? How soon can normal social life be resumed ?
Generally, the patient is discharged  from hospital without bandages (the scars are disinfected every day and do not require other special care). Among the first things that the surgeon will do is to determine three things about his patient.He will take time to study the structure of the nasal bones as well as the shape and texture of the soft tissue in the nose.

Then, he or she will determine the skin type of the patient, the ethnicity, and the age. This second set of details will be used to model a nose shape that is realistic for that particular skin type, ethnicity, and age. In the case of a marked and more uniform aging face the patient is recommended a full facelift: the lifting of head and neck, which aims to rejuvenate the upper third of the face (forehead, eyebrows), the middle third (eyes, cheekbones , cheeks and nasolabial furrow) and the lower third (neck).

The lifting of head and neck offers the best guarantee of complete rejuvenation of the face: in people where signs of aging are marked, in fact, is inadvisable to proceed with “segmental” lifting (only the neck or only the forehead).

Neck lifting

For other cases, the aging signs are evenly spread throughout the face and the neck area, then the patient must be treated with “complete” head and neck lifting.

The aim of the neck lifting  is to lift and reposition the skin and the muscle groups that have turned relaxed and have lost elasticity. This is an operation lasting two hours if limited to the neck and of longer duration in case of more extensive cosmetic face lift.

If there is accumulation of adipose tissue (fat) the lifting is combined with liposuction of the neck under local anesthesia with sedation.

The scars are hidden behind the ears and in some cases you will require an incision below the chin but it will leave no visible imperfections. After the surgery swelling and bruising of the neck may appear but will disappear by themselves in about 10-15 days.

Eyebrow lifting

It is common to see the tail of the eyebrow down, even in young people, especially males. This feature gives the face a gloomy, worried look.

Correcting this problem is really simple and you can do it as a single process or combining the lifting with the upper blepharoplasty (they share the same incision to access). In the latter case, the access incision is hidden in the scalp. In either case the end result is the rise of the third side of the eyebrow.

Forehead lifting

Cheeks lifting

Like the face and neck, the tissues of the cheeks undergo relaxation and loss of elasticity and firmness. This creates the nasolabial grooves, the definition of the jaw is lost and the classic depression under the eyes appears. It’s a normal condition linked to the aging process that involves not only the surface layer of soft tissue (skin), but also the underlying tissues. In this case the remedy is only by means of surgical facelift which may be limited to the cheeks or combined with other regions of the face needing an equal treatment, namely the neck and forehead .

The access incisions are hidden in natural contours of the ear and the lower lid (similar to those of lower blepharoplasty). 

In face cosmetic liposuction the use of very thin special cannulas permits, in the hands of an experienced surgeon, the return in shape of more harmonious contours of the face and neck.

The mini-incisions that allow the insertion of the cannulas are mostly hidden from view and not leave visible marks on the skin . The anesthesia required for this action is accompanied by local sedation. The infiltration of vasoconstrictive substances minimize the bleeding and the patient can go home immediately after surgery.

The surgical aspiration of excess fat requires an appropriate degree of skin elasticity needed to allow the skin to adapt to new volumes and is performed after the local infiltration of a certain amount of anesthetic and vasoconstrictor substances, according to the most advanced technique of liposuction, called tumescent. The thinner cannulas allow a precise action and a thorough remodeling, and not negligible detail, the scars that are practically insignificant. The surgeon pays particular attention to the study phase of liposuction, in order to practice the minimum number of incisions and places them in hidden areas or along the natural skin folds. The administration of vasoconstrictors prior to surgery prevents excessive loss of fluids typical of traditional liposuction and so respects more the tissues.

Before face cosmetic surgery:

• Inform the surgeon of any possible drug treatment (particularly steroids, contraceptives, antihypertensives, cardiac, anticoagulants, hypoglycemics, antibiotics, tranquilizers, sleeping pills, stimulants, anabolic steroids, etc..).

Botox is the trademark for a product that uses the active principle of the botulinum toxin, produced by the bacteria Clostridium botulinum, which is one of the most lethal known toxin.
