Do a Makeup Case Inventory
You freshen your wardrobe regularly and do an inventory of your closet regularly, so why not your makeup case? Makeup does not last forever so more often than not, you will have products in your case that really should not be there. In fact, using old, expired face cosmetic products can be harmful.
When you examine the contents of your makeup case, one of the first things you should do is throw out anything that looks weird – discoloration or changes in texture for example – and smells bad. In general, most face cosmetics can be kept for a year although some items, such as mascara and liquid eyeliner, have a shelf life of 3-6 months. If you use products that contain only natural ingredients, the shelf life will be even shorter. So do your research when making purchases, and use common sense.
After you have thrown out makeup items that are unusable, it is time to turn your attention to items that you do not use. If you have not used a product in more than three months, it might be time to think about whether the item is worth keeping. If it is able to be used by another person, such as with a nail color, you might want to see if a friend would be interested in it. Other items, such as lipstick and eye makeup, should not be shared; these will have to be thrown away.
When you have cleared out your case of items that you do not use, you should be left with items that are usable and that you do use frequently. Make a list of these items for easy reference when it is time to replace them. This is especially helpful since many companies have multiple selections and product lines, making it difficult to find favorite items.
Another thing that might make your makeup management easier is getting a proper case to store your makeup. Rather than throwing all of your makeup in a cosmetic bag, you might want to consider something that will be more organized. There are many types of makeup cases available but something like a makeup train case or a professional case – where there are storage slots and space for every item – are the best way to stay organized.
Imagine how wonderful it would be if all of your eye makeup is grouped and stored together in one section, and your lip makeup in another! No more fumbling around for items in a seemingly bottomless bag. Makeup cases are compact, have multiple storage compartments, and sometimes even mirrors with lighting!
If a full-size professional makeup case is too much for your needs, you should consider a smaller version, like a makeup brush case, since brushes should be kept clean and separated. No matter what case you decide on, do make sure you are vigilant in organizing and managing your makeup. The fun aspect of doing inventory on your makeup is that you get to play with products and new looks and of course, after throwing out unusable items, you have an excuse to go shopping to freshen up your makeup inventory
