Permanent Facial Hair Removal – Methods to Achieve Hair Removal

The word “permanent” in permanent facial hair removal does not mean the method or instrument can remove hair forever from the skin. This is simply advertising hype to denote a hair remover that keeps the hair from growing for a number of months after treatment. This is because nature has designed hair growth in such a way as to make completely suppressing it impossible.

There are some proven effective methods for ridding the skin of hair for a considerable length of time.

Some methods make use of mechanical principles to remove the hair by its roots. This is done by applying a precision coil spring against the surface of the skin where there is unwanted hair. The coil is bent and positioned against the face. By turning the handles of the coil between the thumb and forefingers, the coil itself is rotated so that it traps hairs  and pulls them out completely.

Other methods make use of laser beams to destroy hair follicles and extract the hair. The advantage of this method is that hair need not be long enough to be pulled out mechanically. This type of “permanent” facial hair remover works even after hair has been shaved off and is an ideal alternative especially to face cosmetic treatments which require the hair to be long for the success of the procedure.

Chemical hair removers are also available which can inhibit the growth of hair. These usually come in the form of topical ointments or creams. Because these depilatory creams contain substances that may cause side effects, they are only available by prescription from a licensed physician. These ointments may be used 2-3 times a day. Results are generally evident within a period of 2-3 months and the inhibition of new hair growth lasts for another two months after the use of the substance has been stopped.

By far, the most successful method for permanent hair removal is electrolysis. However, because electrolysis treatments are costly, can not be self-applied, and can cause considerable discomfort to the patient, it is not a very popular depilatory technique. This method is superior to laser treatment in removing the hair by its roots. It destroys the hair papilla and the surrounding matrix that is responsible for hair growth. Actually, Electrolysis is the only method defined as permanent by Food and Drug Administration (FDA),

The type of permanent facial hair remover that is ideal for you, given the peculiarities of your skin, may be different from one that is appropriate for another person. This is the reason why people should consult with their dermatologist before beginning any hair removal regimen. The side effects of some treatments may be too obvious on fair skinned patients. Additionally, different hair types and textures require varying techniques for the operation to be successful. Allergy sufferers may also contraindicate subscribing to chemical hair removal procedures. Additionally, people with low tolerance for pain may want to avoid techniques like electrolysis that subject the patient to repeated and possibly great discomfort over a considerable stretch of time.

Mechanical hair removal using precision coils is considered safer than invasive and chemical techniques.
